Market Street Penthouse
Lofty Ambience
Many people find open plan, industrial style spaces intimidating to furnish. The key is to use colours and textures cleverly and select furniture of the right scale to create distinct zones which flow into each other. The Market Street Penthouse by San Francisco based Winder Gibson Architects is a great example.
The architects emphasised the urban, loft-feel of the double-height penthouse with the use of white concrete floors and slick furniture. The pale blue walls next to the windows frame the spectacular views beautifully and help to soften the ambience. The extensive use of walnut wall and ceiling panels, especially in the study area upstairs, provides extra warmth and complement the kitchen / dining area well. Overall, the apartment feels sleek, elegant and relentlessly contemporary, a perfect fit for the space and location.
