Solid Spin Lamps by Tamma Design
Taking a Spin
Clerkenwell Design Week is upon us and one of our favourite venues is the atmospheric former prison cells at the House of Detention, where the soft glow of the Solid Spin Lamps by Tamma Design really shone out from the crowd.
Designed by Estonian designer Johanna Tammsalu, the Solid Spin lamps take their striking shapes from slow exposure photo images of spinning objects. The three lamps chosen for the collection are "spun" from high heel shoes, keys and sunglasses. These unique shapes are then realised in ceramic glazed in a range of glossy colours. This results in beautifully sculptural lights in fascinating geometric shapes, which really goes to show that inspiration can come from anywhere.

Sculptural shapes create interesting furniture, such as these Mini Clay occasional tables from Desalto and the Seatshell chairs from Frederik Roije.
Like the Solid Spin lamps, the Link suspension light from LZF and the Skylight Tower table light from Frederik Roije both sport distinctive profiles as if they had been spun.
For beautiful accessories with interesting shapes look no further than the Tip Top waste bin from Ghidini 1961 and the Transmission candle holder from Diesel Living.
