Shoreditch Stunner

Converted Iron Works Penthouse, London: GBP 3,995,000

Looking for a gem of a penthouse with truly unique features?  Look what we have unearthed!  Hip Shoreditch location?  Check.  Vast open plan space?  Check.  Historic building with original industrial features?  Check.  Wow factor?  Check check check.

What the agent says: "A truly exceptional, architect designed, 3 bedroom penthouse apartment arranged over third and fourth floors of a converted iron works.  Extended to create an additional floor of entertaining space, original features such as exposed brickwork, beams and windows are combined with contemporary architecture and decor.  Industrial materials such as glass, iron and steel have been used throughout the apartment, creating a striking and unique interior. "

What we love:
The unusual layout is great for entertaining, especially the upstairs dining and reception areas with the skylights and well furnished terrace (hot tub anyone?).  This is a hipster-hangout cum super-batchelor-pad par excellence.

What we would do:
The upstairs space works well but could do with furniture with a sleeker, more sculptural edge.  The vast downstairs space looks rather wasted and, with a bit of imagination, can be converted into two large ensuite bedrooms and a spectacular cinema / entertainment room.

The converted iron works penthouse in Shoreditch is being marketed by Savills.  Prices and details correct as at 27 March 2017.

Sleek and sculptural furniture would complement the glass and steel structure of the upstairs space well.  Try the Hauteville concrete armchair from Lyon Beton, the Bitop coffee table from Coedition and the Sail TV stand from Desalto

The contemporary industrial style of the Multilamp floor light from Seletti would work wonderfully in the more enclosed spaces, whilst the Skylight Tower suspension light from Frederik Roije would look great if used in a group above the kitchen counter.  Alternatively, for a touch of industrial style indulgence, go for the Special Factory suspension light from Ghidini 1961.

The Bordbar airplane trolley, with an inbuilt drinks cooler, is perfect for the roof terrace.  The Rise & Shine wall mirror from New Works would make a sleek addition to the bedrooms, whilst the Pipework candlestick from Nick Fraser would add a dash of colour in a suitably industrial style.
