Waterfall Loft
This unusual loft apartment at the De Loods building has a storied past, having undergone various uses from a chocolate factory to a paper recycling plant. In its latest incarnation, the warehouse was rebuilt as loft apartments, riding a wave of redevelopment as the formerly industrial area is being transformed into a trendy residential neighbourhood. Although the building was completely rebuilt (the original structure was deemed to be beyond repair), it retained the shape of the original factory as well as key features such as the extensive skylights and the original steel trusses. Inside, the apartment has an unusual "waterfall" layout, with the two upper floors stepped back to maximise light and maintain an open plan feel.

What we love:
The unconventional waterfall layout creates an open, airy vibe as well as great flexibility (the living spaces on the second and third floors can be easily converted into bedrooms). In addition, there is a roof terrace, a patio and two covered parking spaces, not to mention a discrete guest bed hidden under the stairs, Harry Potter style. This loft apartment really has a great deal to offer.
What we would do:
Switching the position of the master bedroom and bathroom would provide the former with a window and more natural light. The loft could do with an extra bathroom too.
