Indemann Watchtower by Maurer United
Robot Watch
The Indemann Watchtower is a 118-foot high robot-shaped viewing platform in the former mining district of Inden in Germany. Designed by Dutch architects Maurer United, the steel and mesh structure is conceived as a symbol of the future in a declining industrial area. The facade is made of a special stainless steel woven material with 40,000 LED lights interwoven within it, which enables different colours and animations to be displayed at night. Forward looking and humourous, the watchtower is a great example of how good design can be functional and uplifting at the same time.
